Being ill in a hotel is stressful, especially in a city you do not know. Below we explain how a hotel visit works and what the doctor brings, which illnesses our doctor can treat in your room and when you need a hospital instead, what the visit costs and how travel insurance works, which parts of Dubai we cover, and who our doctors are.
How does a doctor visit to your hotel work?
You book by phone or WhatsApp and the doctor comes straight to your room.
- Call or WhatsApp us on +971 52 345 2647. Tell us your hotel, room number, the patient’s age and the main symptoms. We ask a few questions first, so we can tell you straight away if you need an ambulance instead.
- We confirm the fee, which doctor is coming and the arrival time before the doctor sets off.
- The doctor comes to your room, usually within 30 minutes. You do not need to go to reception or wait in a lobby.
- The doctor asks about your symptoms and medical history, checks your blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen level and temperature, examines you, and explains the diagnosis and treatment.
- The doctor gives you common medicines on the spot when you need them and a prescription for anything else. You also receive an invoice and a medical report.
Hotel reception or the concierge can also call us on a guest’s behalf.
What does the doctor bring?
The doctor brings a medical bag with a stethoscope, an otoscope for checking ears, a pulse oximeter, a blood pressure monitor and a thermometer, plus common medicines and sterile single-use equipment. If your heart needs checking, we can arrange a portable ECG in your room: a trained technician records it and a cardiologist reviews the result.
What can a hotel doctor treat in your room?
A hotel doctor treats the common illnesses and minor injuries that affect travellers, the same problems a general practitioner sees in a clinic:
- Fever, cold, flu and sore throat
- Ear pain after flying and ear infections
- Stomach upsets, food poisoning, vomiting and diarrhoea

If you are dehydrated, the doctor can arrange an IV drip in your room, and travellers worn out by a long flight can book our jet lag IV drip. If you need a blood or urine test, the sample can be taken in your room through our blood test at home service, so you do not need to visit a lab.
When should you go to a hospital instead?
Call 998 for an ambulance, or go straight to a hospital emergency department, if someone has:
- Chest pain or pressure
- Difficulty breathing
- Signs of a stroke: a drooping face, weakness in one arm, or slurred speech
- A seizure, fainting or confusion
- Heavy bleeding
- Swelling of the lips, tongue or throat after an allergy
- A serious head injury
A hotel doctor is for problems that need attention today but are not life-threatening. If our doctor finds something more serious during the visit, they will tell you and help arrange your transfer to hospital.
How much does a doctor visit to your hotel cost?
A doctor consultation at your hotel in Dubai costs AED 250. The fee covers the doctor’s visit, the examination, the diagnosis, and any prescription, sick note or fit-to-fly certificate the doctor issues. IV drips, blood tests, an ECG and other tests cost extra, and we tell you the price before you agree to them.
You can pay by card, Apple Pay or an online payment link, or split the cost into instalments with Tabby or Tamara.
Does travel insurance cover a hotel doctor visit?
Many travel insurance policies refund doctor visits abroad, but cover depends on your policy. You pay at the visit, and we give you an itemised invoice and a medical report to send to your insurer with your claim. Check your policy, or call your insurer, if you are not sure what it covers.
